IHI Terrasun names Horacio Larios Senior Director of Projects
Horacio Larios has joined IHI Terrasun Solutions as Senior Director of Projects where he will lead the Projects team within the Projects and Product Engineering organization.
Horacio has been a power project developer, engineering manager and construction manager throughout the United States. He is also a veteran of the armed forces: as an officer in the Navy, Horacio served on a nuclear submarine for 5 years before he began his civilian career in Latin America building thermal power plants. Learning to manage challenging time-constrained projects in a region with developing supply chains, Horacio adroitly navigated risk of delay and performance to project execution. In the US, he has honed his skills as a professional engineer and Director of Development for renewable energy projects. That experience perfectly positions him to lead the IHI Terrasun Projects team because in energy storage, the evolution of battery technology, power plant software and operational services happens at unprecedented speed.
“I look forward to being an integral member of the IHI Terrasun team, to developing long standing partnerships with energy storage developers, and being a part of the renewable energy transition,” said Horacio. “It’s an exciting time to work in renewable energy with incredible year over year deployment growth. It’s even more interesting to work in energy storage specifically, where the growth is accelerating before our eyes and the market is evolving with every project.”
With a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona, Horacio brings engineering knowledge along with his ability to manage complex intertwined dependencies inherent to execution of any energy storage project.
“Horacio is a great fit for our company and the Projects team specifically because he shares our ethic of hard work and customer focus. He brings tremendous experience from a developer’s side, giving him invaluable perspective. He is a natural team leader and we’re excited that he’s joined the IHI Terrasun team,” said Larry Kane, Senior Vice President of Projects and Product Engineering.
Horacio joins at the time when the team successfully completed one of the most important milestone projects in North America: Gemini Solar + Storage in Nevada, U.S.A, which was commissioned in the summer of 2024. IHI Terrasun provided integration, power plant software, and commissioning services for the project. The team will also continue to deliver Field Engineering services for project maintenance for the next 25 years.
